    How to Prevent Wet Basements?

    By pegobuilders | August 21, 2010

The problem of wet basement is a common one in various American households. The increasing demand for basement dehumidifier is a testimony to this home improvement curse. However, you can easily tackle this problem by checking the seepage of ground water into your basement. Any cracks or leakage in concrete walls, floor to wall joints, through clay brick walls and around pipes should be immediately remedied. A sump pump can help you in keeping your basement water free.

Take all the necessary steps to keep rainwater out of your basement. To ensure this, you can dig rain gutters that do not allow accumulation of water and treat patios, and concrete driveways with water proof materials. Make sure that you trim any grass around your basement so that it does not lead to water absorption and resultant dampness. It will be wise to check all the water pipes around the basement for leakage and clean your footer drains from time to time.
